The mission of the Billiard University (BU) is to provide assessment tools, a rating system, and learning resources to help pool players strive for and achieve excellence, and to officially acknowledge excellence through the awarding of diplomas.

The BU was founded in 2012 by Dr. Dave Alciatore (Dean and co-owner) and Randy Russell (co-owner), with input from a group of other founding Professors:

The BU also offers Boot Camps, intensive but fun and rewarding weekends of training and evaluation. We have an Overview Course and an Advanced Course that help players raise their game to the next level.

The BU also certifies and promotes BU Instructors at three different levels: Professor, Advanced, and Affiliate.
